It's official: I am The University of Western Australia's SONA Representative for 2014.
For those unaware, SONA is the Student Organised Network for Architecture, and the official student body of the Australian Institute of Architects. The role of SONA is to "represent architecture students from across Australia, organising national, state and local events that provide opportunities for students to collaborate with each other as well as professional designers". I'm willing to extend that role towards the support of current students, prospective students and the development of student to professional, through objectives set by the Australian Institute of Architects.
When applying, I was requested to complete a platform statement, detailing what I will aim to achieve in my role. I will be more than happy to detail what my three main objectives will be.
- The promotion of self-motivated architectural work through the exhibition of talented student’s work through a student-produced publication.
- The education of architectural practice to prospective incoming university students to advocate the profession through meaningful creative development.
- The extension of support towards current students through the promotion of services that are available as members of SONA.
The objectives and goals may develop over the month, with formal training being undertaken later in February in Anglesea, Victoria with all representatives in Australia.
It's only day one in my role, but I am willing to deliver an amazing year for students at UWA. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or just want to grab a coffee and chat, do not hesitate to contact me. I want to be open to everyone and always willing to listen. Remember, we're representatives for the students. If you feel that something can be done differently, tell me. Let's work together. I'll keep everyone updated on what's happening via effective communication channels.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
SONA Representative, UWA
